I can remember in vivid detail the day I gave birth to our first daughter. Diastasis Recti is a common condition affecting approximately 15% of postpartum women. Normally, the two sides of the muscle are joined at the body midline.
In postpartum women, the defect is seen when the abdominus recti muscles do not fully knit together after pregnancy, leaving a rather unsightly bulge of the stomach. This condition comes in varying degrees, from slight tearing to a full separation, which can give rise to herniation.
