Mixing muay thai with some boxing?
There is a well-known boxing gym in my city, and i was thinking that when i started fighting muay thai, should i go to that boxing gym and have them help me with my striking?
do you think they’ll understand that i do muay thai and not stick me in some beginners class doing things i already know and force me to change my stance? i wont be sporting my muay thai shorts or muay thai shirts or any of that, but id just like to use a boxing gym to train so i can develop better striking, but id like to kick the bags and knee.
i know ill be getting weird looks as well, but a leg kick makes a lot more noise as it hits the bag than a punch does.
im gonna call them soon, and see if they can do this for me, but i want opinions. maybe i should look into another MA to compliment my muay thai striking?? i dont want to learn ground if anybody suggests.
Boxing would be great for improving your punches. Any martial arts that you do in addition to Muay Thai will make you a better fighter. If you find a good Taekwondo school, your kicks will be good too.
I don’t know if they would want you kicking their bags. They might be worried that you will wear them out faster since kicks are obviously much more powerful than punches. Maybe you could find a gym somewhere that has heavy bags, but isn’t a boxing gym?
