Is the ab rocket a good way for someone in my situation to build abdominal muscles?
I am trying to get in good enough shape to qualify for officer candidate school for the marines. There are three fitness criteria: crunches, pull ups, and a 3 mile run. Training for pull ups and the 3 mile run are not a problem. I’m having a lot of trouble with the crunches (which is supposed to be the easiest of the three)–basically I’m not improving much by doing 3 sets of crunches/sit ups a night. I only do 3 because I quit soon after that when my back starts hurting (some nights I don’t even do 3). I need a good ab workout that will build strength (hopefully quickly) that won’t hurt my back. The ab rocket on TV promises to do that with 5 minute workouts a day. Any thoughts from those that may have used the machine?
If anyone knows of an alternate workout, please let me know. I’ve tried a few different techniques, like leg lifts, but I’m not sold that those are the way to go either.
I served 5 years active duty in the marines myself. In my experience crunches are the best. but dont worry if your not in the best shape before you join. youll have enough time before your tested. at least the enlisted boot camp did
