The Lexmark #T650dn# is one of the latest mono workhorse printers aimed at small businesses and work groups. It is actually one of three T650 models all built around the same engine. The T650n includes a 350 sheet standard input capacity, The #T650dn# adds a duplexer and the T650dtn ups the input capacity to 900 sheets. Print speed and quality is therefore the same for all three printers.
At 13.7×16.7×19.4 inches the #T650dn# is fairly big and is made even more so by the duplex unit. The #T650dn# weighs 40.6 pounds so you won’t want to move it around much but it is simple to get operational. Drivers for Windows XP and Vista and Mac OS 10.2 and later are included while drivers for many other operating systems can be downloaded from Lexmarks’ web site.
The #T650dn#’s front panel has an LCD display, buttons for navigating the menus and a number pad which when used with the internal memory allows jobs to be held until the user enters a pin or password. There are USB and Ethernet sockets front and back of the #T650dn# and optional extras include wireless networking and parallel ports.
Additional options for the #T650dn# include a 250 sheet drawer, a 550 sheet drawer, a 2000 sheet drawer, an output expander with an additional 550 sheet output bin, a 1,850 sheet output stacker, a five bin mailbox, and a stapler finisher. At 350 pages the paper capacity of the #T650dn# is likely to be on the low side for most small businesses.
The #T650# uses either 7,000 page or 25,000 page toner cartridges (0T650A11E and 0T650AH11E) with the bigger capacity being much cheaper to use over time.
The quality of text prints from the #T650dn# is highly professional. Graphics are not quite as good with some banding evident in darker patches. The #T650dn# produced reasonable photo prints but detail was missing and there was banding in dark areas.
The #T650dn# proved to be a quick printer producing 34 pages a minute. Duplex printing from the #T650dn# was also fast at 27 sides a minute.
Small businesses and work groups will not be disappointed by the Lexmark #T650dn#. The features offered are generous and overall it performed very well. It is inexpensive to use and prints are of a high standard. The low capacity paper handling was the only real disappointment but this can be rectified. The #T650dn# is a real contender.
