Making Your Fitness Plan
by Ray Burton
Right now you can make time to workout. You have the motivation for working out; you know your goal and how long it should take you from your fitness timelines. Now you need your program. WHERE DO YOU START? Which of the million programs out there is the most effective for you to get where you want to go?
What I offer is sound advice that works, has worked and will continue to work for years to come. Will it ever change? Sure! If new science surfaces that shows a better way, I’ll be there and change my system.
For right now, the best way to get someone into the gym and on track is a three step process. Acclimatization, muscle strength, and then muscle sculpting.
It works like this. First you get your body ready to train so you don’t get any injuries. During this phase you will still be burning calories, losing fat and shaping muscle but the goal is to get your tendons and ligaments ready for the stresses to come. Cardio is there but fairly tame.

Second you must develop some strength. Everybody needs to be stronger. Why? Because the only way your muscles will develop and get shapely is through constant and steady increases in the resistance applied to them. Yes even the ladies. Take a look on the this site about women’s fitness if you’re a woman and are scared of lifting heavier weights because you don’t want to be an Amazon. Cardio in this phase is ramped up and done “with intent”.
The third phase is the best. You are now ready to take a leap from the progress you have already made into the real “results zone”. The training becomes harder and more detailed, the results come faster and your shape changes dramatically. The cardio gets bumped up and you’re losing fat so fast that the mirror becomes your best friend (please wait till you get home).
By now you should be on a fitness program, doesn’t matter if its “Fat To Fit” or not.
