Dumbbell Handles
Is the weight I bench with dumbbells equivalent to the weight I could bench with a barbell?
I’m new to working out and I have a pair of dumbbells with a stand where you place the dumbbell handle on the stand and twist the sides to pick the weight you want. It’s pretty handy but it only goes up to 21kgs per dumbbell.
I’ve started doing flat chest dumbbell presses (among other exercises) and worked my way up to the point where I can comfortably do 21 kgs per dumbbell.
I want to buy a barbell now so that I can do more exercises and to replace the dumbbells as chest weights. Is it correct to say that since I bench 21kgs per hand, I can bench (21 x 2 = 42kgs or 92lbs)? I need to know if this is correct so that I can buy the correct weights for my barbell.

You are correct. And your one barbell should be able to go well up to over what you are doing now as you will probably gain strength quickly if you are pressing often. Just be sure that you are lifting evenly so you do not favor one side over the other. Single weights help with this as you are working each side separately. But the single barbell is going to help you keep it level, so it’s really a personal choice. Just watch your form in a mirror to ensure proper lift.
Also, when you purchase at a Sports or Gym Equipment type of facility, there should be salespeople there to assist you with getting the weight system best for you. Lastly, please have a spotter if you are going big and lying down on a bench. If you drop it, it usually falls to your throat and cause serious damage.
