Should I stop using dumbbells for bench press and use just the bar?
I can do well when I use dumbbells and can do about 85 lb dumbbells (8 reps). But I have been having difficulties benching using the bar, and can only bench 155 lbs including the bar (8 reps).
What can I do to improve my bench press using the bar? Should I stop doing dumbbells altogether and focus on bar.
Dumbbells are far superior to the bar in building all the stabilizer muscles in your arms, shoulders, and chest. I would stick to dumbbells and just forget about the bar.
But if you must do the bench press with a bar, start preparing yourself by doing pushups two weeks beforehand. This helps “even out” your upper body, and balance is very important in using the bar.
